Hit Your Peak: 8 Tips For Max Muscle

If your biceps and behind aren’t blooming fast enough, it might be time for you to take a look at your training routine. Check out these 8 training tips for added size and shape!
You've been under the bar for a while, but you're a little disappointed—you haven't built the size or achieved the shape you so desperately want. Your chest could be wider. Your back could be thicker. You could have more defined shoulder caps and a sharper biceps peak. What you need, my friend, are some tweaks.
Strength and size training have many similarities, but there are some particular things you can do to get the most from your hypertrophy workouts. Try these eight tips to build muscle, shape, and density.
1/
Superset For Size
To do a superset, pair two exercises and perform them back-to-back with no rest in between. It's best to do supersets with antagonist muscles like the biceps and triceps, or quads and hamstrings. Supersets are great for increasing muscle size because they enhance the release oftestosterone, which is key to building muscle.
Supersets also enhance hypertrophy because they represent a higher-intensity workout. Your muscles have to adapt to the extra sets and low rest. Because they're working so hard, your muscles must adapt. Often, that adaptation is increased size.
You can superset compound exercises, but compound movements aren't always best for getting that refined, defined look. They're good for strength and mass, but if you're trying to build a bodybuilder body, use isolation movements.
2/
Add High-Rep Isolation Movements
Finishing your workout with high-rep isolation movements like biceps curlstriceps extensions, lateral raisesleg extensions, or hamstring curls is a great way to increase the overall blood flow to your muscles. This pump will give you a more defined appearance while you lift, but it also helps bring the necessary muscle-building nutrients to your muscles.
Doing high repetitions causes glycogen depletion during the workout. Your body will compensate for this by increasing the amount of glycogen stores in the muscles. This, in turn, will enable you to perform at a higher level next time around. Eventually, you will be able to store more muscle glycogen, which can further increase your size.
3/
Use a Pre-Workout Product
Supplements designed to be taken before a workout have transformed over the years. Some of the best ones are all-encompassing cocktails that will help you maximize your muscularity. Most supplements in this category focus on the effects from stimulants that will knock your socks off. If they help you focus and train harder, then these cognitive enhancers can be a huge advantage to your training session.
In addition to helping you get in the zone, most pre-workout products also include ingredients that will directly affect your muscles and reduce fatigue. This usually includes creatine, which supplies the phosphate needed to fuel your anaerobic activities in the gym, not to mention directly increasing muscle volume (making you look fuller).

Taurine has a role in modulating the contractile function of muscle tissue, directly influencing performance and strength. Other ingredients to look for are beta-alanineBCAAs, and tyrosine.
4/
Reduce Your Rest
Anything you do to force your body to do more work over a shorter period of time is going to boost your muscularity. Your body will have to adapt to doing more work in less time. Like supersets, rest reduction pushes a lot of blood through your working muscles.
Decreasing your rest periods during workouts will increase vascularity and spike your metabolic rate. A faster metabolism means that even after the session is over, you'll have an increased capacity to burn fat and calories. One secret to looking bigger is carrying less body fat.

Rest for 30-60 seconds between sets. As you fatigue, pay special attention to using good form.
5/
Add Dropsets
When you reach failure during a normal set, the recruited muscle fibers are too fatigued to move the load. However, this doesn't mean they're totally zapped. Any technique you use to extend the set by immediately reducing the load will continue to train even tired muscle fibers.
To do dropsets, perform one set using your standard weight. Immediately after you've finished the set, drop the weight by five pounds and do another set. Once both are finished, drop the weight one more time and then perform a third and final set.
Dropsets are great as a finisher. Do them right and you might have to peel yourself off the gym floor.
6/
Avoid Excessive Cardio
Generally speaking, endurance athletes and strength/hypertrophy athletes are on opposite ends of the spectrum. Few people can master both, and asking your body to adapt to two stimuli that have opposite needs may be too much. If you are still unsure, compare the physiques of marathon runners to that of their short-distance-sprinting peers.
Intense cardio sessions like HIIT are well-suited for maintaining muscularity. If you'd like to implement cardio into your training routine, intervals are probably your best bet. This type of training will provide the base of your metabolic conditioning without robbing you of your muscularity.
And don't worry, data has demonstrated that training at distances as short as 400 meters can improve mile times. Avoid steady-state cardio—it's not going to help you gain size.
7/
Maximize Time under Tension
When it comes to hypertrophy, volume is important. Extending your sets for as long as possible causes your body to continuously use fuel and constantly recruit new muscle fibers to help the fatigued ones. Involving more motor units in each set can improve your muscularity.
Furthermore, increasing your time under tension will temporarily increase the fluid surrounding the muscle cells, giving you a full look.
To increase your time under tension, do dropsets, decrease your rest time, try burn-outs, increase the number of sets or reps, or do movements more slowly.
8/
Focus On Recovery
Train hard while you are in the gym, but don't hamstring your progress by overtraining, under-eating, or under-resting. If you can't muster the same strength, energy, and intensity from workout to workout, it might mean you need to take more time between training sessions.
If your muscles don't get proper rest, you can't hope for that muscularity. They need time to recover and grow. Build your body with ample food and adequate sleep. Without enough rest, you simply won't gain size.

did you vote?

ITS ELECTION DAY EVERYONE GO VOTE,

I voted today for the first time, was not as exciting as I had expected. It was a good experience to say the least, aside from the people standing out front of the building handing pointless pamphlets out and trying to persuade my decision. Watching all the presidential debates this year along with all the studying and reading up on politics in general definitely makes a difference in your choice, learned a lot of things about the president that I was not aware of. Though I am glad to say that I am now able to vote, and contribute to making our country's next four years better for everyone.

Sport Photography

Did some photography at the Manchester girls volleyball game for their seniors, was some good practice for shooting sports and moving objects. These were definitely my two favorites out of all the shots I got. Congrats to all the seniors!

Pursuing Dreams

Over the past couple years; I have met a lot of people. Though they are all great people, one has stood out to me specifically, Tahjee Wallace. I have known Tahjee for about 2 years now, becoming better friends with him each day. We were talking one day about how he wanted to be a photographer when he got older, I had seen a lot of his work and agreed it was a good idea. Not knowing any of his past or how he had gotten started with photography I was curious and definitely in for a surprise. I went to him asking for a little background information so I could write a little about him and promote his work to help get his name out there, he agreed and I knew I was in for a challenge. He was born in Wake Forest, NC. Only six months after he was born him and his mom moved to Hawaii for two years because of a job offer his mom got. In that two years things happened that some people don't experience in their entire life. Tahjee was only two and couldn't yet understand what was actually happening at the time. When Tahjee and his mother had returned back home, his father had been murdered by a co-worker. He wasn't told what actually happened to his dad until he was 11 years old; he always wondered where he had been. Going back to elementary school, Tahjee said he was a big pain to his mom. He got caught up in the wrong type of behavior from living in his neighborhood and was into stealing, fighting, lying, and anything else kids do to get in trouble. Tahjee says, "I wasn't the type of kid who always wanted his way, my mom taught me better than that, I just had a bad attitude and didn't care for anything or anyone". Soon after this phase of his life, Tahjee got into a bad bike accident in his neighborhood and suffered a potentially life threatening injury. He hit his head hard enough to almost kill him, suffering a serious confusion. Scaring him so badly, he learned his lesson and had to change things in his life. He became more focused in school and positive things, like skateboarding. In sixth grade he met a group of friends and started skateboarding with him, keeping him out of trouble and in with a new better crowd. Tahjee says, "My friends I met in sixth grade are what really made the impact on my life". To this day, I know for a fact that he still hangs out with these friends he met back then, and he would take a bullet for any of them. Going back to middle school though, Tahjee said he didn't talk to anyone except for his group of friends; he was often bullied, and just figured it was karma from when he was younger. When he hit high school, his life really started coming together; he knew he had to start deciding on what he wanted to do after he graduated so in ninth grade he picked up photography starting with a regular 35mm camera. A year later, his mom passed him down his first car, which he would later actually sell to buy his first legitimate Canon DSLR camera. Tahjee and his friends would take pictures of anything they thought was "cool" he said. Whether it was cars, skateboarding, or anything they found funny or interesting. Once all of his friends started purchasing their own cars and making them nice, he focused more on automotive photography. He took photography all four years of high school and started to really understand it, from developing film, to editing pictures on Photoshop. He says "I learned a lot of the skills that I actually use today in my photography career in my last two years in high school". Mentioning his photo teacher, Mr. John Pankey, Tahjee said he will never forget him. Graduating in 2012, Tahjee was a slacker like most high school students, but he managed to pull through without any setbacks and get it done. He now works installing heating and air conditioning systems and does photography on the side. Recently Tahjee got some of his work into a magazine and was offered a job shooting for an online European car magazine, and also has started his own clothing line to promote his career and raise money called "The Fitted Brand". Hoodies, Dog leashes, iPhone cases, hats, key chains, and much more will be up for sale in mid-October so check him out and get some photography work done, you won’t regret it!

Through all these struggles, Tahjee managed to overcome everything and stay positive thanks to good influences he ran into along the rough road in his life, he found something he was passionate for and is now pursuing his dream without letting anything get in the way.

Below is a link to his Flickr and Facebook for anyone interested in checking out his work or getting in contact with him, enjoy!

Try

A friend shared this cover with me today of Frank Oceans original song "We All Try". I listened to it over and over multiple times today. I sat down and listened to the lyrics very closely, and got to thinking, how deep and emotional this song really is, Not only that, but Sid Sriram has an amazing voice. This cover is truly amazing, i recommend everyone to listen to it and share it.

9/11 Memorial

As we all know, today is 9/11, we all remember the terrible tragedy that the United States suffered 11 years ago today. Though for some of us, its more than just a memory. I take pride in looking back on 9/11 and remembering not only the innocent citizens, but remembering also my grandfather. My grandfather, Billy Mac Clements passed away 4 years ago today, and not a day goes by that i do not think about him, he was an enormous influence on my life, and will always be. I look up to him as a role model and I know he looks down on me and protects. The picture above is from the Virginia Veterans Memorial where he is buried, I went for a short visit before work today and snapped a quick picture, I can always feel his presence around me and I tend to always check the clock at 9:11 at least once a day. This is my favorite way to remember him with such passion, what a great man he truly was. I hope all who have lost someone close can relate to an amazing memory of them as I can. So if you get a chance today, please take a moment to pray, in honor of all the loved ones we've lost.
